The three-week Summer Institute is housed at Towson University.  Fellows develop a Change Implementation Plan (ChIP) consisting of both an instructional plan for students and a professional development plan for teachers.  The program is divided into four strands:  Leadership, Curriculum Integration, Digital Content, and Connections.  In combination these strands, forming the cornerstone of the Academy experience, comprise the skills that will help educators become technology leaders in their schools and districts.

Educators spend time in each strand:

  • examining and discussing research and best practice on the use of the technology to enhance and support Maryland's Learning Outcomes and the Core Learning Goals;
  • independently exploring research and literature related to the use of technology in their school environment;
  • preparing and presenting a technology-based project in an area of interest;
  • participating in and critiquing presentation of these projects;
  • participating in small and large group sessions facilitated by experts in the field; and developing a technology integration plan for their school community.

A number of special events also occur during the Summer Institute including a Baltmore Orioles baseball game, an ice cream social, and a reunion for all former MTA Fellows.  The three-week experience culminates with a gallery walk where Fellows showcase their instructional and professional development plans to colleagues, principals, administrators, and invited guests.
